General Information: Basic Seamanship 101 Class:
14TH ANNUAL NSCC SEAMANSHIP ACADEMY 

I am pleased to welcome you to the annual NSCC SEAMANSHIP ACADEMY to be held at Massachusetts Maritime Academy.                                      

WHEN:  June 28--July 5, 2009;               QUOTA:  25 male and female cadets; 

PREREQUISITES:  * Must have graduated from NSCC Recruit Training;

                * Be recommended by unit CO; 

CURRICULUM will be based on the USN SEAMANSHIP Manual and Maritime Academy Seamanship Courses.   Course of Instruction includes:  

MARLINSPIKE SEAMANSHIP      BOAT SEAMANSHIP        COLD WATER SURVIVAL

BRIDGE WATCH KEEPING        DECK SEAMANSHIP        COASTAL NAVIGATION

VESSEL OPERATION UNDERWAY  

INTRODUCTION TO THE OCEAN ENVIRONMENT

This evolution will consist of both classroom and hands-on opportunities.  Cadets will complete the NSCC Seaman Exam, as well as additional exercises; opportunity for athletic participation is provided.    

Cadets will complete requirements for USN Third, Second or First Class Swimmer. 

COST:  $120.00 Deposit upon application; payable to: �NSCC Seamanship Academy�  

SEABAG:  List enclosed 

ARRIVAL: Must arrive Between 1400 and 1630, 28 JUNE, in the Messdeck Quadrangle; 

TRANSPORTATION:  Maps are enclosed and the Academy is easily accessible to major highways.  Any cadet utilizing commercial transportation must notify LCDR McLoughlin in advance. Major airlines provide flights to: Logan Airport, Boston; or Green Airport, Providence, RI.  Commuter flight links may be made to Hyannis, Ma.  Bus connections are as follows: From Logan: �Plymouth & Brockton� (P & B bus) to Sagamore; From Green: �Bonanza Bus� to Buzzards Bay. Please notify LCDR McLoughlin if you plan to use bus connections.  Escort officers will not provide transportation from Logan or Green airports.

I am pleased to welcome you to the first annual class in First Aid & CPR, damage control and firefighting in conjunction with the annual "Seamanship Academy" held for the past 13 years

WHEN:  JUNE 28---JULY 5 2009;               QUOTA:  12 male and female cadets; 

PREREQUISITES:  *Have graduated from Recruit Training;

                *Be recommended by unit CO; 

CURRICULUM Will be based on the USN and Maritime Academy Engineering Courses. Course of Instruction includes both classroom and hands-on opportunities. Cadets will complete an exam and will receive CPR certification. 

Cadets will receive introductory live.
